PowerMe Wealth’s Bold War on Goals!
Why it’s time to focus on Objectives, not Goals!
Why are Goals Important?
Goals are fantastic! They are a journeys final destination, they can provide a long term focus point to strive for, which is great!
A goal is the endpoint, like finally arriving at the top of the mountain, but it doesn’t show how you did the climb, or what obstacles you overcame, and possibly how long it even took you, but yea, there you are at the TOP!
Goals are great for long term thinkers, those with powerful drives to succeed, those who have no problems with motivating themselves. But, what about the rest of us?

How Goals can De-Motivate You!
Lets look at the mountain climbing goal, which is a common theme used for goals and goal setting.
In many ways it highlights several issues:
- A goal with no date, is only a dream.
- Even if a goal has a date, can it be done within that time frame?
- What steps are needed to reach that goal? Do you have any idea?
- Damn, that mountain is so high, can you do it?
- It looks impossible!

And to top it all off, your hopes are set for the top of the mountain, but you have yet to make it to base camp!
Most of us don’t dream of climbing mountains, but long term goals can definitely feel the same – the never ending, uncertain, undefined endpoint to some fanciful dream. For many of us goals are closer to dreams than anything that could be real.
Feeling the uncertainty? Feeling the Fear? Feeling de-motivated? I know I am!
Differences/Similarities between Goals and Objectives
In many ways goals and objectives can be used interchangeably, which is great! This means they share several characteristics, however they are different in several aspects.
- Goals tend to be quite broad.
- Goals tend to be less specific.
- Objectives can be used to achieve a Goal
- Goals tend to be less tangible
- Goals tend to be more medium to long term
- It’s easier to say Goal than Objective
So, if you can please forgive my insolence, what I am now going to suggest flies in the face of pretty much all the literature out there, and in doing so should make your goal setting Objective Setting more powerful….
War on Goals: Forget Goals, and Focus on Objectives!
Here’s why:
- Objectives are easier to define.
- Objectives are easier to measure.
- Objectives are specific.
- Objectives are smaller steps.
- Objectives are often shorter term.
- Objectives are realistic.
- Objectives reinforce motivation more frequently.
- Objectives are the steps used to reach Goals, or long term objectives.
The often quoted SMART system is used to essentially force Goals into the form of Objectives.
There is an old saying: “A goal without an end date is just a dream!”
I would counter that “A goal with an end date is only slightly better than a dream!”
That’s where the PowerMe Wealth System comes in, but I digress….
So, lets just call a spade a spade, we need to focus on Objectives, not Goals!
“But what happens to my long-term Goal?” you might ask.
Great question! Sure you could still have a long-term Goal, but how about this, just make it a long-term Objective instead! The long-term Objective should be made so that it’s reliant on multiple other objectives to be completed first. That in itself gives the long-term Objective more power than a long-term Goal, as the long-term Objective is more defined, and better measured.
When a long-term objective is used this way you not only have the end point of the journey, but all the things that must be completed to get there.
A long-term objective provides the map needed to get you were you need to go. That makes it a plan, not a dream. From both an execution and emotional perspective it makes a HUGE difference!
It makes what you want long-term achievable, no longer a dream, as you have a plan!
The best bit is this, as a long-term Objective is only an Objective, you can use it to spring-board to bigger and better things. Who says that when you reach the top of the mountain you can’t board rocket ship for more adventures!
I know for some of you this might be a difficult concept to grasp, but I ask you to bear with me as you progress through the PowerMe Wealth System. I believe you will end up seeing the method in my madness!
This is why you will see objectives, not goals, used throughout the PowerMe Wealth System.
We ask you to join us in our a War on Goals, focusing on objectives, so that you improve your ability to move forward on your Wealth Adventure.
